Push the lid down and twist at the same time. Press the top firmly toward the can with your thumb while turning the lid counterclockwise. The downward pressure releases the child-resistant catch so it can rotate open. Pulling straight up without pushing down is why it feels stuck.

Step by step

1. Hold the can upright in one hand.
2. Press the lid straight down with your thumb — firm, steady pressure.
3. While still pressing, twist the lid counterclockwise (lefty-loosey).
4. It clicks and rotates free. To close, just twist back until it clicks.

If it still won't turn, you're probably not pushing down hard enough while twisting — the two motions have to happen together.
